A bat (Russian: летучая мышь) is a mutant found in Vladivostok.
Overview[]
Bats closely resemble their pre-war form, although they have developed an extra set of limbs, and as well as a tail. They also bear a resemblance to demons, although there are several differences that indicate they are a separate species, or at the very least a sub-species. Their front limbs are much shorter in comparison to their body size, while the tail is longer. Their feet also have more toes than those of a demon, and appear bird-like, with three toes on the front and one on the back.
Even though bats and demons belong to different species, the bats of Vladivostok have apparently developed a symbiotic relationship with at least one (The Seraph) of their larger cousins. A swarm of bats will accompany the Seraph on the hunt. When it spots its prey, the Seraph will direct the swarm to stun or injure the target while it hides among them and eventually swoops in for the kill. The bat swarm allows the Seraph to conceal itself mid-air and ambush its prey, which would normally be impossible for demons. Their connection to the demon is quite strong, as they will not abandon it even if its injured to the point of being incapable of flight.
It's unknown whether this is a mutually beneficial relationship or if the demon is somehow able to mind-control the bats into compliance. It's also unknown if any demon, other than the Seraph, has developed this ability.
