Unikom (egzoszkielet)

The unikom (Russian: Уник) is an exoskeleton that appears in the novels The Right to Life and The Right to Revenge. Four known copies of the suit exist, one of which is used by Danila Dobrynin.

Overivew[]

It's unknown where the suit came from, but characters in the Universe of Metro 2033 books speculate that it could have been developed by the remnants of influential institutions in Japan, China, or Korea (after World War III, but based on pre-war prototypes). The exoskeleton's functions are many times greater when powered by a battery that can be inserted at the back of the helmet.

With or without a power source, the unikom greatly boosts its wearer's strength and agility. Inside it, a microclimate is formed, covered by three layers of demron and plates of sixth grade armour, shielding the user from both increased radiation levels and most small arms fire. It compensates kinetic energy, distributing it across the entire surface of the armour.

Weaknesses of the suit include junctures of the armour, elastic fabric used for the groin area and armpits, as well as lack of protection against fire from larger calibre weapons or explosives. Its functionality is also reduced when not powered by a battery.

Trivia[]

  • The unikom is reminiscent in looks to the "nanosuit" of the Crysis video game series and in function to the power armour of the Fallout game series. However, all of these are in one way or another inspired by actually existing or planned prototypes of such technology in modern warfare.
