Story[]
The novel is set on the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya, a cold and terrifying region of the Arctic. A small community struggles to survive in the face of starvation. One day, a lost group of fishermen discover the abandoned village of Severny. After their return home, the community's food warehouse caught fire, destroying half of their food supply. Meanwhile, a series of mysterious murders occur in a neighbouring community. Realizing that the population of Zastava is threatened by a terrible famine, the chief sends an expedition to the abandoned military camp in the hope that there will be untouched food supplies.
