Irkutsk (Russian: Иркутск, Mongolian: Эрхүү, Erhüü) is a location of stories from the Universe of Metro 2033 and mentioned in Metro Exodus. It's one of the largest cities in Siberia.
Overview[]
In the game, during the train section, you can activate a radio and listen in on people's broadcasts. One such message details a group of survivors living in and near Irkutsk which is close to Lake Baikal, where the Aurora crew eventually moves to. It details a man crossing the vast lake by himself and dealing with bandit groups in the area.
Although Irkutsk was never hit by any bombs during World War III, the lower part of the city has been flooded. A number of different, and sometimes conflicting, factions of human survivors persist there. Irkutsk is also home to some unique mutant species.
Trivia[]
- Irutsk appears directly only in the Universe of Metro 2033 novel Edge of Humanity by Yuri Ulengov, but it's also mentioned in the short story End of the Road by Dmitry Glukhovsky and the video game Metro Exodus.
- Unlike Moscow, St. Petersburg, or various other major cities of the former USSR, Irkutsk has no metro system. The main forms of public transport in the city are tram, trolleybus, and normal buses.
