Minsk (Belarusian: Мінск, Russian: Минск) is the capital of Belarus. It has 1.8 million inhabitants and is the largest city of Belarus. Together with the outskirts, its total population can be estimated to around 2.6 million people. Minsk is said to have been founded around 1067 AD.
The metro of Minsk was opened in 1984 and consists of two lines. It can be assumed that until the apocalypse, Minsk had 25 stations if the expansion plans may have been delayed or were not finished. However, construction of the third line of the Minsk metro system should have been started in 2011, so it's possible that there was a functioning third line by the events of World War III. The system has a length of around 30 km and most of the stations are not as deep as the stations in other former Soviet satellites due to dry soil, however they are highly decorated as well. The railway platforms usually have a width of 10 metres and a length of 100 metres. Minsk Metro currently carries 800,000 passengers a day.
It can be assumed that Minsk was completely annihilated, and that the population was largely wiped out by the bombardment or the subsequent radiation, or evolved into mutants much like the Dark Ones. If there are survivors in Minsk's metro at such a shallow depth then it can be expected that elsewhere, especially in Western Europe, there might be survivors as well, possibly in the subway systems of Berlin, London, and the massive cave systems of Ireland. Some of these theories are confirmed by the Universe of Metro 2033 series.
