The rowboat, or rowing boat, is a simple vehicle that appears in Metro Exodus.

Overview[]

As Artyom, the player can traverse lakes and other large bodies of water by rowing this boat across its surface - but beware of the dangers that may lurk beneath.

Rowing boats are first encountered in the level Volga. There are at least four usable rowing boats, scattered around the map. The player has to be careful while using a boat, as they can be attacked by aquatic creatures, such as shrimps, while rowing. There are also huge fish-like creatures (similar to the Tsar Fish) found in this level that can flip the entire boat over. This is usually a death sentence for Artyom, as in water, he is an easy prey and usually gets eaten before he can climb onto the shore. Therefore, avoiding large aquatic mutants while rowing and slowing down or completely stopping when near them is recommended.

Another rowing boat appears in the Taiga level, towards the end. It has to be stolen from the Pirates and it is then used to cross a swampy body of water to Admiral's place.

Rowing boats appear again in Novosibirsk, this time with a different, more robust model. Artyom uses a rowing boat to traverse half-flooded tunnels of the Novosibirsk's Metro, which are covered in mutated biomass and inhabited by a large number Worms, mutated animals possibly descended from leeches or earthworms. The first usable boat that the player encounters has an oil lamp in the front that can be lit, making traversing the dark tunnel slightly easier but also attracting more attention.
