The wolf (Russian: волк, Polish: wilk) is a wild animal that appears in several books of the Universe of Metro 2033 series and in Metro Exodus, where they are encountered in the Taiga area.

Overview

In Metro Exodus, it is one of the enemies that Artyom may face when exploring the surface of the Earth on foot. As opposed to watchers, wolves seem to have survived the nuclear war with much less mutation and highly resemble their pre-war cousins. Their behavior also appears to be largely unchanged, as they still prefer to hunt together and live in social packs of their brethern, usually led by a dominant pair.

Extremely territorial, possibly disease ridden, and noticeably famished, these variants of wild wolves are rabid predators. They are not to be underestimated and could potentially be immensely dangerous. Just one wolf can become an issue if not defeated quickly. However, they are at their most lethal when encountered in groups. The domesticated cousin of the wolf is the dog.

Metro Exodus

Wolves are encountered in the Taiga level, after Artyom passes through a Pirate camp and ziplines across the gorge into the woods. The wolves hunt the deer in the area, while also getting chased off by the Forest Master. While they will attack Artyom if he gets too close, they are relatively easily avoided. After Artyom gets through this section, the wolves are not seen again.
