Zamoskvoretskaya Line (Russian: Замоскворецкая линия) is Line 2 of the Moscow Metro.
Overview[]
The Zamoskvoretskaya line is 42.8 km long and has 22 stations. With over 1.2 million daily passengers, the line was one of the busiest in Moscow, connecting the north and south of the city. Chronologically, it was the third line built, opening in 1938. While most of the line is underground, there are parts that go across the surface, particularly where it crosses the Moskva river. The line also had one of the most photographed stations before the War, Mayakovskaya, which has since been destroyed.
With only 12 inhabited stations, Zamoskvoretskaya is rather sparsely populated considering its size. Most of the population is concentrated in the northern half of the line, while the southern half is almost completely deserted, with Avtozavodskaya being the last inhabited station. This is likely due to the fact that the line crosses the surface beyond the Revolutionaries' station, making traveling there extremely dangerous.
